Periodontal Disease

Periodontal (Gum) Disease: Is the major cause of tooth loss in patients over twenty-five years old. Irritants in the plaque cause inflammation of gum tissues and bone surrounding the teeth. Untreated, these irritants continue to attack the supporting structures until the teeth become loose and are finally lost. The earlier in the disease process that treatment is initiated, the longer the teeth can be maintained.
